Elissa Slotkin and campaign staffer for Attorney General Dana Nessel, was remembered as a community leader who worked to build bridges. “Sam was as kind a person as I’ve ever known,” Nessel said Saturday on X, formerly known as Twitter. “She was driven by her sincere love of her community, state and country. Sam truly used her faith and activism to create a better place for everyone.”Funeral services were to take place Sunday afternoon in suburban Detroit. Detroit Police Chief James E. Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 07:03:43 GMT

Canada’s electric vehicle market keeps getting bigger, but that’s not necessarily good news for consumers — or the environment. Manufacturers are leaning heavily on electrified SUVs, trucks and large cars that mean high prices and profits for the automakers. The trend has helped push the average price for an EV to almost $73,000, according to Canadian Black Book, making it well out of reach for most households. That’s true even with signs of downward pressure from Tesla price drops.Experts say cheaper options will be crucial if Canada is to transition away from the combustion engine. They say Chinese automakers could fill the gap if established players don’t step up.“We drastically have to figure out how to produce more affordable vehicles,” said Rebekah Young, head of resilience economics at Scotiabank. In a recent report, her team calculated that EV prices will have to come down by about one-third to be affordable for middle-income households and by half for ...

Fleck did his customary crowd surfing atop players on Saturday night, the Gophers head coach didn’t have the highest elevation in pink-walled visiting locker room at Kinnick Stadium.Minnesota defensive coordinator Joe Rossi had climbed on all fours onto the lockers’ roofs and was banging their metal frames as the celebration hit higher decibel levels after the Gophers’ 12-10 win over Iowa.Rossi’s bird’s eye view was one of countless snippets that emanated from Minnesota’s first victory in the Floyd of Rosedale rivalry game since 2014 and the U’s first win in Iowa City since 1999.Quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis let out a big scream as he entered the locker room. I don’t agree with a damn thing you say.’” He told donors at a Friday night fundraiser that Netanyahu still keeps the photo on his desk and had brought it up during Biden’s lightning visit to Tel Aviv last week.As expectations grow that Israel will soon launch a ground offensive aimed at rooting out Hamas militants who rule the Gaza Strip, Biden finds himself facing anew the difficult balancing act of demonstrating full-throated support for America’s closest ally in...
